Today I present a sofa, a couch that I love: Le Bambole, produced by B&B Italia, designed by Mario Bellini between 1970 and 1972 .
And I really need to explain why I love it so much!
This sofa was in the house where I spent many of my summers as a child . As soon as possible, I snuggled up to his arms.
The feeling that is still with me, and that returns immediately to my mind when I think of Le Bambole, is that of a shelter.
A comfortable couch, yes, but above all enveloping and soft, round like a good red wine and warm as a hug.
A sofa that is one of my must-have, because it is not only beautiful , but it is also a piece of furniture that knows how to be part of the affections of a family.
A kind of emotional sofa.
And then, B&B Italia! Italian company leader in the furniture area, produces many of the most famous design objects.
And Mario Bellini? Italian architect and designer, he has won eight times the Compasso d’Oro (the recognition that is awarded by the Industrial Design Association for the quality of Italian design ). And, one of these eight times, he won it with Le Bambole.
But let’s get to them, Le Bambole.
The initial idea was that of a bag, filled with material without form, that was modeled once resting on the ground. It had to be a big pillow, soft in all its parts, which, if broken, it was composed of other pillows. Simple shapes and natural, difficult to draw but easy to perceive.
The synthesis of comfort, softness and elasticity and naturalness of their forms make Le Bambole special and relevant still today. So much that B&B has created a new version in 2007, with removable lining.
From a technical point of view , Le Bambole [sorry if I keep repeating the name, but I love it : it’s soft and round too!] consist of an internal frame in tubular steel and steel profiles, internal frame upholstery in polyurethane foam, polyester fibre cover and bottom base in 100 % jute fabric. The cover can be in fabric or leather in a range of colors almost infinite .
The price? Well … you certainly can not say that it is given, but you have to try it at least once to understand that they are money really well spent!
